Ever notice how it's expensive to stand for anything anymore? For instance: hate animal cruelty? wanna be a vegetarian? Good luck paying for your meals. Vegetarian food at restaurants is generally smaller portioned and as expensive, if not more, than meat dishes. Also, vegetables are a heck of a lot more expensive by the pound than say...hot dogs. And at least your hot dogs will always be sold fresh (well, usually). Or perhaps you're a fan of "no sweatshops" or "american products only" . Good ideas, to be sure, but be prepared to pay large amounts of money for all of your clothing and whatnot. Aside from clothing and food, there's plenty of other causes that are equally as expensive.
The point I'm trying to make is that it's getting increasingly harder to stand for your beliefs anymore. Sure, ideally, we'd all like to drive hybrid cars and wear clothes made by real Americans in American factories as opposed to foreign sweatshops but it's not that easy. We can protest and believe all we want, but that doesn't make the size of our wallets increase or the cost of these things decrease. It takes a lot to change one's ways. If it was easy and inexpensive, everyone would do it and the problem would solve itself. In the end it comes down to exactly how much are you willing to sacrifice?
